Bitcoin’s genesis block was mined on January 3, 2009. No one knows who owned the node that mined the initial bitcoins (it was likely Nakamoto), but the address that holds that bitcoin today is worth $3.9 million. The miner earned fifty bitcoins. A few days later, Nakamoto sent ten bitcoins to Hal Finney, making it the very first bitcoin transaction on the network.
